Speaker: David Tabor, Account Manager - Federal Programs, Platform Computing Corporation.
At the US Navy's Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (Fleet Numerical), forecasting weather and ocean conditions to produce accurate global weather prediction models requires significant High Performance Computing (HPC) resources, intensive jobs, complex dependencies and tight schedules. By using Platform's leading-edge grid solutions, the team has engineered the foundation to offer a single command and control infrastructure between multiple sites located thousands of miles apart that can share virtualized resources across the enterprise and at the same time maintain the enforcement of federated scheduling policies. As a result, Fleet Numerical has been able to capture economies of scale and reduce the total cost of operations through increased utilization of existing resources and infrastructure; the production of faster, more accurate and reliable weather models; and efficiencies across the enterprise by pooling computing assets into a single, logical super-cluster and process.
