Speaker: Jess Cannata, HPC Systems Administrator, Georgetown University.
This hands-on tutorial will teach the participants how to identify computational resources that are both underutilized and appropriate for inclusion in an organization's distributed computing pool. Participants will also learn how to choose applications and tasks that are suitable for distributed computing within this pool.
The class will then learn how to install and configure a computational
pool consisting of a Linux back-end and Linux, Windows, and Unix
clients. Participants will learn how to construct security, storage, and
utilization policies. They will modify and deploy several real-world
applications, and discuss strategies for running both open and closed
source software on the system.
The class will end with a brief discussion on how participants can
apply the techniques used to build distributed pools to Beowulf clusters
and grids.
