Biography
Mary Thompson
Computer Scientist, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab/Nersc.

Mary Thompson is currently the Group Lead for the Distributed Secure Grid Infrastructure group in the Distributed Systems Department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. She joined the lab in 1995 where she has developed software for a distributed systems including a Web-based image and video library in use at LBL and a certificate-based authorization system used by the DOE2000 Diesel Combustion Collaboratory and the National Fusion Collaboratory. As an active participant in these scientific collaborative environments she has guided and helped in the implementation of secure data access and remote job submission. Her interests include security aspects of grid services middleware components. She is currently working on providing more flexible authentication and authorization services and integrating them with other authentication and authorization mechanisms used by non-grid distributed environments. Prior to joining LBNL, Ms. Thompson was a staff member of the Computer Science Department of Carnegie Mellon University for seventeen years where she contributed to the development of the Mach and Hydra operating systems. She also worked for five years at MIT on the Multics operating system.
